THE British community in Majorca swings into action this weekend hosting two fund raising events for the victims of tsunami disaster in South East Asia.
The first charity event is tomorrow night at the Anglican Church in Palma.
A special concert is being held in aid of the Tsunami Disaster Fund at Coleman Hall.
The concert, which starts at 8pm, is directed by Conway Jones and features a host of leading local performers including Brianna Drain, Carlos Amengual, Cynthia Nolan, Izzy Newman, Jon Melsa, Laura Jimenez and the Georgie Insull Singers.
On Saturday, the Mallorca Cricket Club in Magalluf is holding the first of a series of fund raising events.
The Balearic Cup-winning Mallorca Cricket Club XI will be playing an International XI of local cricketers in a limited overs game which will start at mid-day.
All the players will be donating their match fees to the relief fund. Spectators are being encouraged to pop down to the ground, make a donation and spend some money in the bar or on afternoon tea.
The main idea is to have some fun and raise as much money as possible.
The Ses Salines Municipal Band announced yesterday that at its New Year Concert it raised 1.200 euros for the disaster fund. The Association of Es Born de Molinar residents raised 2.074 euros by holding two charity fogueron b-b-q nights in Sa Gruta and Es Portixol.
