By Humphrey Carter THESE are some of the pictures Peter Stringfellow has handed over to the Mayor of Calvia Carlos Delgado after the British businessman who lives in Bendinat was given “face to face assurances” by the mayor that the graffiti problem in Calvia will be “immediately” dealt with.

Stringfellow has been championing the cause on behalf of concerned and upset foreign and local residents for the past 18 months and on Tuesday had a meeting with Carlos Delgado to discuss the matter. “The mayor gave me his personal assurance that the graffiti will be dealt with. “It also appears that the council has two officials touring the local schools discussing the problem with the kids,” Stringfellow said. “However, I went out yesterday to take some pictures of the graffiti for the Mayor, as asked, and was really surprised to see the full extent of the problem. “Until now I've only really been aware of the graffiti around where we live, our regular haunts and the complaints from many of my friends and associates. “But yesterday as I went round to Illetas, Portals Nous, Bendinat Hill and the back of Portals I was astounded at the extent of the problem. “There must have been 100 acts of vandalism,” he said. “I expressed to the mayor my concern, explaining that I have toured schools and prisons discussing social problems in the UK with considerable success. Many of the areas targetted are home to affluent businesspeople, both Majorcans and people from all over Europe who do not expect to see this kind of vandalism. “We all love Majorca and I suggested that perhaps school kids should be more encouraged to do so too,” he added. “We had a very good meeting and I was encouraged by what the mayor said, he told me that he will immediately deal with the problem. But having seen all the vandalism, he's certainly got his work cut out.”
