THE Project Hombre Foundation has opened the first centre, the Can Palerm Centre, in the Balearics dedicated exclusively to training courses on the prevention and treatment of drug addiction. The organisation expects to train around 800 professionals who are in contact with young people. During a press conference, the President of Project Hombre in the Balearics, Bartomeu Catala, said that activities related to health promotion will also be organised in this centre, created due to the demand by professionals for courses of this nature. The director of Can Palerm, Marilen Morey, announced that the first course will be given in October and is directed at leisure time instructors and directors so that they will be able to detect possible drug dependency among the young people they deal with and to take appropriate action. Morey said that the courses had been planned around the training needs shown by an analysis of the existing situation and by the requests of health professionals, teachers, and social workers, among others.
