Cruising tourism in the Balearics plummeted by 23.04% during the first ten months of this year compared to the same period in 2011, the Ports Authority confirmed yesterday. There were 1.1 million cruise tourists from January to October this year compared to 1.5 million in the first ten months of 2011. There was also a 17.05 percent downturn in the number of ships docking in Balearic Ports.

The number of cruise liner tourists coming to Spain from January to October this year fell by 6.25% in comparison with the same period in 2011, the National Ports Authority reported yesterday. 6.4 million passengers came to Spain this year during the 10-month period compared to the 6.8 million arriving between January and October last year.

However, last October, cruise tourist numbers, 1.08 million were up by 0.8% compared to the same month in 2011 (1.07 million) after six months of negative figures.
