Palma.—The technology research and recycling centre of ParcBit in Palma will this year be joining the Balearic University (UIB) in a food collection campaign “Operation Hope” being organised from Monday by the Balearic Food Bank and the Zona Verde Real Ya social assistance lobby.

A statement issued yesterday said that the objective of the campaign is to show support for those people who are finding it difficult to make ends meet this Christmas as a result of the economic crisis.

From Monday 17th December through to 20th December, both ParcBit and the UIB will open their doors to people wanting to donate food items for subsequent distribution.

The campaign gives everyone at the Unversity and more than 3'000 workers at ParcBit the chance to give key items such as oil, sugar, milk, pulses, rice, pasta, flour and preserved foods such as jams and pickles.

Members of the public who are interested in contributing to the project can bring their donations ot the Guillem Cifre de Calonya building, block B from 10am to 6pm and to the Naorte building in ParcBit, from 12 noon to 3pm.

Majorca's Food Bank Foundation seeks to help the most needy with support from both public and private organisations.
Throughout the year, a number of campaigns are held to collect contributions of (usuallyl non-perishable) food for the Balearic Food Bank. Collaborators include Carrefour hypermarket where shoppers are invited to make a purchase for the Bank on their way round the food supermarket.
