Palma.—Palma Council yesterday finally approved its budget for 2013 despite votes against from the opposition.
The total budget for 2013 is going to be 363 million euros, 5.5 percent less than this year.
Palma's Councillor for Finance, Julio Martinez, said yesterday that the council ruled against accepting any of the objections from the opposition “because they were not supported by any real alternative solutions. “They wanted more money but were unable to explain where it was going to come from,” he added.
However, before getting its hands on the money, the council has to first clear some of its debts and once that is done, will have access to 302 million euros.

Citizen security is going to enjoy the largest share of the budget, 21.5 percent while Social Welfare will see its funding cut by eight percent.
Environment has been assigned 13.2 percent of the budget and transport, 11 percent.
Isern repeated yesterday that the council has financially hit rock bottom but promised that the budget for 2014 will be “expansive” on the back of what is expected to be a positive year for the local economy.
