PALMA
AFTER the success of Woody Allen's concert in Palma at the start of the New Year, the regional government has decided to use top quality concerts as bait to attract both Spanish and foreign tourists during weekends over the winter months.
Names being proposed for concerts at this initial stage are Serrat, Vonda Shepard and La Oreja de Van Gogh. The three performances which are scheduled to take part at Palma's auditorium in January, February and March respectively, have been put forward by Tourist Promotion director Joan Sastre. He confirmed yesterday that the intention of regional authorities is to create attractions in low season to contribute to an all-year-round tourist industry.
It's what the sector is calling for, said Sastre yesterday. He explained that part of the marketing drive for out of season attraction will be to promote the concerts in key client countries as well as the rest of Spain. The concerts, Sastre said, will be part of a travel and accommodation package offered by travel agents who are party to the collaboration.
