THE Balearics ended a roadshow in Germany yesterday with two workshops in Hamburg and Hannover which were attended by more than 300 German travel agents.

The Director of Tourism Promotion, Susanna Sciacovelli, led the Balearic delegation to Germany. the week-long visit was aimed at trying to boost holiday bookings to the island in Germany.

Last year an estimated 3.9 million German tourists came on holiday to the Balearics and it is the principal market for the islands followed by Britain.
However, there is some concern locally over the fall in bookings to the islands. Next month the ITB tourism fair is taking place in Berlin and the islands are sending a strong delegation led by the leader of the Balearic government Francesc Antich.

Over recent years some Germans have been deserting the Balearics in favour of cheaper holiday spots in the Eastern Mediterranean. Also, like the British, a growing number of Germans have been holidaying at home this year.
