A 27-year-old construction worker was in a serious condition in a Palma clinic last night after being crushed by the arm of an industrial crane.
The accident happened at mid-day on the site of the new sports centre in Genova, next to the football ground.
A lorry was unloading building material a few yards away from where the victim was working when the main arm of the crane came loose.
Fortunately for the construction worker, the arm crashed down onto a huge block of concrete before falling on top of him.
However, despite the concrete block breaking the crane's fall and probably saving the site worker's life, the 27-year-old was said to have been in a serious, but stable, condition last night in the Clinica Juaneda where he was being treated for his injuries. The accident shocked fellow workers and an investigation has been opened.
