THE Balearic government yesterday unveiled a pioneering global digital initiative to market the region across the globe.
The digital marketing and promotion strategy has been devised with the support of Microsoft and is the first of its kind in the world.
Balearic President Francesc Antich announced the plan at the ITB Berlin travel trade fair explaining that the new digital system will enable people anywhere in the world, to see and explore what the region's tourist industry has to offer on line.

The on line service is going to be using the very latest digital technology and is going to cost around 12 million euros to launch.
Antich said that he and his government consider the use of new technologies in the field of tourism the way forward and also crucial to pulling the region, which is dependent on tourism, out of recession quickly.

The new web site is going to be open to all sectors of the region's tourist industry and the aim of the government is to present a complete guide to the Balearics as is possible on line.

SUN AND SEA
Antich said yesterday that the site will also feature information about the region's environment and green policies, sustainable tourism and promote all the other activities the islands have to offer apart from the traditional “sun and sea” attractions.
