IN 2007 Palma will host a big gathering of Spanish and French nautical companies who will discuss the problems of the sector and expectations for the future of the industry in the two countries. They will also tackle subjects like the financial pressure on them and the lack of existing port space to house new companies. The meeting was agreed by the Chamber of Commerce for Majorca, Ibiza and Formentera and the French Consulate during a technical meeting yesterday to promote the organisation of this event. The date for this meeting has been provisionally set to coincide with the next International Boat Show in Palma. The meeting will be open to businesspeople from all the nautical sectors, such as yacht charter and repairs and maintenance of boats and marinas. They will discuss their common problems and their expectations for the future of the industry in the two countries. The Port of Palma has been awarded a prize by the British magazine “Dream World Cruise Destinations” as the Port with the most efficient services during the past year. It was awarded during the Cruise Fair which took place this week in Miami in Florida. According to the Balearic Port Authority the prize was received by their President, Joan Verger, who headed the Balearic Delegation made up of technicians from the port, representatives from the Mahon council and cruise companies.
