A group of young people in Palma has asked the council to take various measures, additional to those already planned, so that the mass binge drinking session planned for April 8 on the Paseo Maritimo can become “a demonstration of community spirit from the young”, according to a spokesperson from the group. The first thing that this group proposes is the installation of three mobile information units to distribute leaflets about three things which they consider are especially worrying for the young: the consequences of consuming large amounts of alcohol; the possibilities of getting a job; and information about sexuality and methods of contraception. Last May Palma council conducted an information campaign to try to prevent the consumption of alcohol on public roads.
This was the first step towards bringing in the campaign against the harmful effects of binge drinking which started on June 3 with the Youth Red Cross distributing the leaflet “Alcohol consumption: your responsibility”.
