THE Council of Majorca yesterday approved a funding agreement which was given the “all clear” last Friday by Central Government whereby the Balearics will receive 388.7 million euros for road building projects between now and 2017. Road Development Councillor, Antoni Pascual said that the acceptance of the funding from Madrid means that works can go ahead “immediately.” Projects which have been given priority are a third lane on the Palma ring road, the first section of the second ring road, and the Son Servera bypass. Nearly 52 million euros will be spent on them. Opposition Partido Popular spokesman on the Council of Majorca, Mabel Cabrer, said that if both central and regional governments had co-ordinated the agreement in a more timely manner, over 3'000 people would not now be unemployed at a time of economic crisis.
