Palma.—The award-winning UK based television production company Outline Productions which has been behind such series as The Secret Tourist (BBC One), Great British Food Revival (BBC Two), and Sky One's Emergency with Angela Griffin, is currently developing an exciting new documentary series exploring the lives of British expatriates living permanently abroad – and specifically those who might be considering returning home for whatever reason; be it missing family and friends, struggling with the local culture, or due to having trouble with personal finances.

Real life stories
Development researcher Sam Wilson told the Bulletin yesterday that whilst at the initial research stage of this project, “we are keen to speak with a range of British expats from across Spain (and especially in Majorca) that may be contemplating moving back to the UK – in order to uncover a rich array of real life stories and world-views. “We will also be looking at the expatriate communities in France and even Australia, in fact wherever there is a high density of expatriates in the world, but obviously for us, the closer to the UK the better.” Wilson said yesterday that their latest research has discovered that 90 percent of expatriates worldwide have no intention of returning to the UK but they have already spoken to some, in particular grand parents, who after having retired abroad, now want to be nearer their children and extended family and are therefore moving back to the UK. “Also, with regards to those living overseas in the Euro zone, some people have been hit financially and think they will be better off back in the United Kingdom,” he added.

Interesting scenarios “But, there are no doubt a host of different and very interesting scenarios which we would like to hear about and investigate further,” he said.
Other factors such as a lack of jobs in Spain is also a factor which the producers would like to take into account.
