ONE of Majorca's beaches, Cala S'Almunia in the district of Santanyí, has been picked as one of the 10 best beaches in the whole of Spain.
According to a study carried out by an Internet tourist organisation, Rentalia.com, Cala S'Almunia currently occupies 7th place in this “top ten”. Interviews held for the survey were all conducted with local people. Rentalia.com has published a “best beaches in Spain” ranking based on opinions voiced by the people that use them. Seven Andalucian beaches secured a place in the “top ten” including Zahara de los Atunes in Barbate (Cádiz) which was listed as the best beach in the entire country, followed by Islantilla, at Isla Cristina (Huelva); and La Barrosa at Chiclana de la Frontera (Cádiz). Rentalia.com defended its methods of drawing conclusions from “the people's jury” as the best system of ascertaining the quality of Spanish beaches. “Valuations of experts demonstrate clear failings when the time comes to assess the quality of a beach” claimed the Internet group. “This new method we have used takes into account the actual experiences of people who use the beaches, thus enabling us to judge practical aspects which may well be omitted in a theoretical assessment”. “It's important to improve and add to the information we have on our coastlines, using the hands-on tools of the Internet. People can “mail” us their opinions.
