Palma.—Aurelio Vazquez, who was yesterday elected as the new President of the Majorcan Hotel Federation, said that he is confident of a good summer season.

Vazquez said that, based on current data, this summer is going to be at least similar to last year, “although is some areas it is going to be even better.” As the Bulletin reported only this week, the strength of demand for Majorca in the United Kingdom has already boosted confidence amongst the local business community and there are reports of increases in the sales of holidays to the island in nearly all of Majorca's markets, in particular Scandinavia, France and Eastern Europe.

Vazquez said that in his role as head of the hotel federation, he plans to help “an industry which was practically invented here” evolve further. “The industry has undergone important changes and we need to work to evolve and keep up to date with the changing trends in order to be a source of wealth and prosperity for the next 25 years,” he said.

He admitted that the season has become short “but we still have 40 weeks in which to think, plan, work hard in order to make the most of the shorter season,” he stressed.
