CAMPOS town council is awarding the contracts for beach bars and the hiring out of sunshades and sunbeds for an eye-catching total of four million euros this year, local independent party Mayor Joan Juan confirmed yesterday.
Still awaiting for final contract details of the remainder of the bids to go out to to tender, the Council has nevertheless said that the size of the award in the majority of cases of the ten separate businesses has grown considerably from the original value.
Of the five beach bar contracts which have already been put out to public tender, all have now been awarded. Significantly, the value of the award of contract for the beach bar at Es Trenc known as El Ultimo Paraíso has surpassed all expectations by topping the 80'000 euro mark. Mayor Juan said that in such cases, careful consideration has to be made about the applicants for the contract, to make sure they are capable of operating at the level the business demands.
However, one of the bars remains without managers because it was not part of the original bid which went out to public tender. It is located on the Playa de los Estanys and has not been given a licence by Central Government's Coastal department because it has been denounced as unfair competition by a rival establishment.
