YESTERDAY'S steady rain has led to the torrent or water course in Soller overflowing at the point where it flows into the sea.
The Torrent Mayor was already swollen following the rain over the past week, and yesterday the emergency services had to close a stretch of the road to traffic. Police sources said that up to 6.30pm, there had been no significant effects in houses or infrastructures. A three-car pile up on the Arenal motorway in the direction of the airport at 11.20am yesterday blocked the road to traffic and led to tail-backs of up to five kilometres from the Paseo Maritimo. Two people were injured in the crash, and were taken to hospital, where their condition was reported to be not serious.

There were also three kilometre tailbacks between the Ring Road and the Inca motorway and the airport exit. As a result of the rain which fell steadily all day, The funfair remained closed all day yesterday.

Two low intensity earthquakes were also recorded out at sea, a few kilometres off the coast of Deya and Ciutadela in Minorca.
The first occurred off Deya shortly before 7pm, registering 1.6 on the Richter scale. Its effects were felt at Es Caulls in Marratxi, some 40 kilometres from the epicentre.
