PALMA EASTER parades got underway last weekend with a spectacular Palm Sunday parade taking place in Palma. Organisers confirmed that meticulous preparations had paid off and that there were no hitches along the way. The route was lined with crowds, a considerable amount of whom were tourists, from the start of the parade at Sant Jaume church, through Plaza Joan Carles I, down the Born, and through several streets including Calle Jaume III and Calle Bonaire before entering the Convent in Calle Concepción.

The processionists carried palm fronds to echo the reception that was given to Christ by waving crowds as He entered Jerusalem on a donkey before trial by the Roman government under Pontius Pilate.

The parade in Palma was led by Local Mounted Police and a brigade of drummers. Magnificent statues adorned with flowers were born by members of Easter parade associations representing almost forty different neighbourhoods of Palma.

Whole communities engage in rehearsals for the parades which start many weeks prior to Easter.
