29-year-old woman killed after her vehicle crashes down into Puigpunyent river bed

A 29-year-old woman tragically died yesterday morning after the vehicle which she was driving careered off the road and dropped some ten metres down into the Puigpunyent river.

According to Guardia Civil and 112 emergency centre sources, the accident happened at 11.25am when the driver appears to have lost control of her Peugeot 206 and rolled ten metres down the river bank before finally coming to rest upside down in the water in the river from yesterday's heavy rain.

NO OTHER VEHICLES
Three fire trucks rushed to the scene with support from the Guardia Civil and paramedics.
Reaching the vehicle was difficult and then fire fighters were faced with the complicated task of cutting the body free from the wreckage and then moving the victim up to the road.

Sadly, however, the victim was already dead as a result of the multiple injuries she suffered in the accident.
A full investigation into the cause of the accident has been opened.
An autopsy was expected to have been carried out yesterday afternoon to establish the exact cause of death.
Crash investigator sources said that it does not appear that any other vehicles were involved in the accident.
