Pollensa.—Sea front terraces will be put up for public tender for the first time after Pollensa council has sold concessions for an estimated 138 thousand euros.

Businesses closer to the promenade will have a better chance of keeping their existing places, as the system selected to award the plot will allow them to start with 80% of the necessary points to continue to benefit from the same balconies they enjoy currently.

In exchange they will have to pay an annual fee that can vary between 371'19 to 11.383'19 euros depending of their exact position and size. The 32 terraces selected will be up for auction until the 30th of November - similar to what happens to beaches, beach huts, bars and this year with two sand castle areas worth 700 euros - and local trade can renew their permit for a further three seasons.

The decision by the council comes after the Balearic High Court revoked a permit that allowed them to charge businesses with the occupation council tax stating that they were being charged twice: for the occupation by the Coastal Department and again by Pollensa council.
