Palma.—After a damp start, beer lovers were allowed to wet their whistles in proper yesterday when the sun finally shone on Palma's first international beer festival in the Parc de la Mar below the Cathedral.

Today at 1.30pm, the festival will be officially opened by the Palma City Councillor for Tourism, Alvaro Gijon.
But, making the most of the May Bank Holiday, festivities will kick off at midday with a demonstration of professional jamon (ham) slicing by world champion Florencio Sanchidrian, a beer lecture at 1pm and then at 7pm a special festival of fine hams and beers.

The festival, the first of its kind but an event Gijon hopes will become an annual event, features a total of 70 classic international beers.
There are also a number of food outlets and a special marquee dedicated to some of Spain's best hams. What better way to enjoy the May Bank Holiday.
