Palma.—For the second consecutive year, Majorca is hosting the International Majorca Football Tournament.
Last year it was held along the Playa de Palma but this year, it has been moved to Santa Ponsa and a record number of players from all over the world are taking part.

The International WPIST Tournament takes place every year in the Netherlands and the Majorca Football Tournament has become the younger sister/brother competition.

This weekend, the five-a-side tournament will take place on four outdoor pitches at the Santa Ponsa Sports complex where the gala opening ceremony was held last night.

The tournament is open to Police Officers, Fire Fighters, Custom Officers, Military personnel, Tax Officers and Interior Ministry Personnel.
Over the next few days, the national police team of Jordan will defend their 2012 title.
This team is one of the strongest police football teams in the world but teams from here in Majorca and the UK, including the Metropolitan Police Force will be looking to steal their title.

The event, which has been organised in association with Viajes Adramar with the full support of the IPA Baleares and the Majorcan security forces, including the National Police and the Guardia Civil which both have teams playing in the tournament.

Organisers have confirmed that over 28 different countries are going to be represented at the tournament and a total of 1'300 security or military personnel will be participating in the event which has become an annual tournament here in Majorca helping to kick start the summer season.

The event is open to the general public and entry is free and this year there are a host of other events taking part such as special show cooking.
