THE record of electricity consumption in the Balearics has been broken for the second day running, when it peaked at 817 megawatts at 6.43pm yesterday on the Majorca-Minorca system. A spokesman for the electricity firm GESA said that consumption was 9.5 per cent higher than the same month last year.
Consumption in the Ibiza-Formentera system was 136 megawatts at 9.49pm yesterday, a new record for June and 14.3 per cent higher than the previous June record set in 2002. But it is not an all-time high - the record stands at 142 megawatts on August 19 last year. Consumption so far this month is 16 per cent more than the same period last year.
