THE Can Picafort authorities, tired of paying fines, bowed down to the government and used rubber ducks instead of live ones for its annual duck catching competition yesterday. More people than ever attended the event and the 1'000 rubber ducks imported from China specially for the occasion were caught in 15 minutes.
Each duck was numbered, and all the numbers entered for a draw with prizes which included a motorbike and a trip to Cancun.
Not everyone was happy at the change - some people could be seen sporting T shirts with the slogan We want real ducks.
