Wasp swarms anger tourists in Cala Pi

STAFF REPORTER SWARMS of wasps are making life a misery for tourists and bathers at Cala Pi in the municipality of Llucmajor, Rudi Gomez, the manager of the Hotel Club Cala Pi said yesterday.

Gomez claimed that he was receiving between 8 and 9 complaints a day about the insect invasion at his hotel. The wasps are apparently settling over the swimming pool and stopping guests from using it. Also affected is the restaurant terrace where people are having to battle wasps alighting on their food. Guests have been forced to crowd back into the interior dining room.

Staff at the hotel are also complaining, with some reportedly being stung up to five times a day. The problem has become so serious, said Gomez, that official requests are being made for the Council in Llucmajor to take action.
