AN employee of the phone company Telefonica was yesterday taken to hospital unconscious and in a very serious state after being electrocuted while working on telephone cables near the electrical system in Sencelles, according to sources from the 112 emergency service. The sources said that the employee was working at a height of 5 metres when he lost his balance and was suspended from the pole by his safety belt.
He tried to pull himself up with his hands but touched the area where cables from the electrical system cross Telefonica's cables and received a huge electric shock. Firemen, officers from the Sencelles local police force, and an Ib-Salud ambulance raced to the scene of the accident. The ambulance crew took the injured man to Son Llatzer hospital, where he received treatment. It was later reported that he was out of danger.
