THE Royal Household has set August 30 as the tentative date for the second meeting this summer in Palma between King Juan Carlos and Spanish Prime Minister José Luis Rodriguez Zapatero, instead of tomorrow as originally planned. The King has already met Zapatero in the Marivent Palace on 1 August, which constituted their first meeting during the summer holidays.
This year and for extraordinary reasons, the Prime Minister and the King had a further meeting in Madrid. This was on 18 August and followed the Spanish army helicopter crash which cost the lives of 17 soldiers. At the second meeting in Palma, it is traditional for the Prime Minister to be accompanied by his wife, and the King and Queen Sofia then invite them to dinner. Tomorrow was ruled out because of a Cabinet meeting in Madrid.
