PEGUERA boulevard in Calvia was cordoned off by Local Police officers yesterday after a hoax bomb alert was received by an establishment in the area, Central Government Delegation sources confirmed.
Special police operations unit Tedax was despatched to the area and after collaboration with the officers who had been warned of the call, were finally able to verify that the alarm was a false one. No explosive devices at all were found and after the all-clear was given, the police cordon was lifted. However, Local Police officers remained in the area and were joined by National Police and Guardia Civil reinforcements.
It was on 30th July last year when Basque terrorist group ETA detonated by remote control, a bomb placed under a vehicle in Palmanova, killing two young Guardia Civil officers.
The campaign of terror continued with the placing of other explosive devices at several locations in Palma. However, no further deaths or injuries were sustained.
