A FIRE broke out in the early hours of yesterday morning in a four star hotel on the Muro beach front.
The fire started at around 3.45am yesterday in the hotel sauna room of the Rei del Mediterrani Hotel on Playa de Muro.
All hotel clients and staff had to be evacuated immediately and were forced to stay away for a further two hours.
Nobody was injured by the fire or smoke, neither a client nor one of the staff members.
The fire brigade teams for Can Picafort and Inca arrived on the scene to extinguish the flames and worked on through until 7.30am, when the fire was completely brought under control, said a spokesperson from the Majorca Fire Brigade. The fire destroyed the sauna, the gymnasium and some hotel rooms on the top floor.
The evacuation was carried out without any problems and the hotel guests were allowed back to their rooms from 6am onwards.
However, those guests staying in hotel rooms near to where the fire broke out, were given different rooms, said a spokesperson for the hotel management. The Rei del Mediterrani is a four star hotel, located on kilometre 9 of the Alcudia to Sa Pobla main road, with 242 rooms.
