TWENTY percent of the babies born in the Balearic Islands in 2004 have foreign mothers, a proportion which has increased by 2.3 percent with respect to 2003. These statistics were provided in the annual 2004 report by Ib-Salut and the Ministry for Health and Consumer Affairs, which states that in 2004 there were 10'655 births on the islands, and of this total 8'524 babies had a Spanish mother and 2.131 had a foreign mother. These were mostly mothers from Central and South America (905), followed by mothers from Canada, Australia, America and Europe (476).
