THE local authorities called on the public to help prevent further cases of domestic violence resulting in death after a minute's silence for the death of María Josefa Rodriguez, allegedly strangled by her husband, and the second victim this month. Ramon Socias, the central government representative, called on people to report cases of domestic violence which are not reported by the victims themselves, to prevent murders. Education was one of the keys to the solution, he said, an opinion which was shared by deputy leader of the Balearic government Rosa Estaras, who said that although advances had been made, there was still a lot to be done. She added that it was important for health and social services to be well prepared, and that when a woman decides to report domestic violence, she should have a series of services at her disposal. Mayor of Palma Catalina Cirer also promised full support for victims of domestic violence.
