THE Spanish Royal Family officially ended their Summer holiday on Majorca last night with a dinner to which the principals of the Balearic institutions were invited, and which took place at 9.30pm in the Palacio de la Almudaina in Palma, according to sources from the Royal Household. Today King Juan Carlos, will meet the Spanish Prime Minister, Jose Luis Rodriguez Zapatero, in the Palacio de Marivent.
This will be the second of their two traditional Summer meetings which are held during the Royal Family's stay on the island.
The first of the meetings between King Juan Carlos and Zapatero was held on July 31.
After talking about the important and pressing affairs of the nation, they were joined for dinner by Queen Sofia, and Zapatero's wife, Sonsoles Espinosa.
Today Zapatero is also expected to meet the leader of the Balearic Government Jaume Matas at 6pm in the boardroom at Palma airport, before his meeting with the King.
Matas will brief the Spanish Prime Minister about the four projects of Investigation, Development and Innovation (I+D+i) which the Balearic Government is expecting to promote in the region. For this he (Matas) will be asking the Spanish Government for financial aid of 130 million euros. The two leaders will discuss this and other affairs of interest to the islands.
The Prince and Princess of Asturias are to visit the Balearic Downs Syndrome Association on September 4. The association is celebrating the thirtieth anniversary of its creation this year. According to the Balearic Government, Jaume Matas will also be present at this visit.
