THE Balearic Occupation Service (SOIB) had 4'503 unemployed foreigners on their books in July.
This exceeds the number in July 2005 by 10.88 percent (442 more) and is 14.23 (561) higher than in June, according to figures from the Spanish Ministry for Work and Social Affairs. Of the total unemployed immigrants on the islands, 1'406 come from countries outside the European Union, and 3'097 come from EU countries.
The interannual rise in unemployed foreigners in the Balearics is very much below the percentage rise throughout Spain, which is 21.64 percent.
The greatest percentage rises have been in Murcia (52.94 percent), Andalucia (32.87 percent), Castilla La Mancha (27.35 percent) and Cataluña (24.5 percent), while the lowest percentage rise was in Cantabria (0.36 percent). Throughout Spain the public employment services recorded 133'109 unemployed foreigners in July, which is 21.6 percent more than in the same month in 2005 and 4.54 percent than in June. Of these 106'491 are from countries outside the EU.
