THE director general for Biodiversity, Joana Xamena, yesterday presented the annual operating programme for the Natural Park of Mondrago for 2006.
This includes the execution of a project to conserve the dunes of S'Amardor which, according to her, are having “very positive effects” in the area.
The dune system and the adjacent wetland form the most diverse habitat in all of the Park with a high level of fauna and botanical and micrological life.
It is also one of the areas which has most visitors as it has a beautifully attractive landscape, complemented by an idyllic beach, according to Xamena.
Among work which has been done this year is the fixing of three deterrent tanks with posts and rope around the areas for dune regeneration.
