PALMA
THE world's seventh largest private yacht Al Mirqab sailed into Palma's Club de Mar yesterday where she has taken out the whole of the outside of quay four for her winter home.
The 436 feet (133 metre) mega yacht is owned by Hamad bin Khalifa, the Emir of Qatar and was only delivered earlier this year.
Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al-Thani became the Emir of the State of Qatar on June 26, 1995 after deposing his father, who was vacationing in Switzerland at the time.
Apart from the standard super luxury facilities, fittings, communication system and helicopter landing pad, the super yacht has a 90-strong crew, is fully operational and will spend this winter moored in Palma, over shadowing the famous Lady Maura which, until now, has been the Club de Mar's largest yacht.
The Al Mirqab is two decks higher than the Lady Maura and 30 metres longer.
This year, Majorca has been visited by some of the world's largest yachts. The infamous and mysterious A, which belongs to 36-year-old Andrey Melnichenko, another Russian billionaire who's met with great success in banking and energy companies, spent most of the summer cruising the Balearics. While Limitless, one of the largest America-flagged super yachts also spent a great deal of time berthed in the Club de Mar.
Having Al Mirqab in Palma is certainly going to boost the local economy, especially when the owner and guests appear.
