Spanair puts back meeting to concentrate on the Madrid air crash

SPANAIR director and the work committee have agreed to postpone this morning's meeting to discuss the airline's cost cutting plans so that all of the Palma-based company's efforts can be focused on the Madrid air crash on August 20 which claimed the lives of 154 people.

Over 1'000 employees face losing their jobs in Palma and across Spain as part of the airline's restructuring plan but the meeting may now have to wait until next Monday.

The works committee yesterday backed the idea with the air accident investigation very much on going and families of victims and survivors still needing care and assistance.

The works committee said that it also wants to wait until the airline has all the necessary information regarding the proposed redundancies in its power, the paperwork apparently remained incomplete yesterday, because laying off over 1'000 people is something the works committee and the union do not want to rush into. Spaniar said yesterday that the airline is nearly operating as normal after a wave of delays and flight cancellations.
