In fact, according to the national weather office, the heaviest rain inSpain was recorded in Palma on the night of 26 August when 49.1 litres of rain fell on the capital.
According to the weather centre’s records, average rainfall for the entire month of August is 21 litres per square metre, well under half the amount that fell in Palma in less than 24 hours accompanied by 12,000 bolts of lightning.
However, in general, August was slightly warmer than usual with an average temperature of 24.4ºC, 1ºC higher than the norm for the month of August.
And, unlike July, the weather office said that no major heat waves were experienced across the country.
