Newsdesk SA Pobla has once again broken its record temperature for this summer, with the thermometer hitting 38.2º Celsius on Wednesday, beating its record of the day before by one degree.

However, this is not its highest temperature ever -that was in 1994, when a temperature of 41 degrees Celsius was recorded there.
All the maximum temperatures on Wednesday exceeded 30 degrees, some of them by a long way, such as the 36.3 degrees recorded in Porreres, 35.8 in Lluc and 35.6 in the Port de Pollensa. Palma airport recorded a temperature of 33.7 degrees.

This August has been very variable and unstable, so much so that the average temperatures during the month have been the same or slightly below the historic averages, with the exception of Palma.

This August has been cooler than those in the last few years. Everyone can remember the scorching Summer of 2003. The heat this August has gone in cycles. After a few cool days with rain, the last few days have been very hot and humid.

However, the Balearic Met Office announced a few days ago that there would be a notable drop in temperatures starting yesterday, with the maximum temperatures dipping below 30 degrees. The temperatures will rise again over the weekend, according to the Met Office, with maximum temperatures of around 30 degrees.

This August will stand out for its rainfall, which has been very much higher than historic averages for this month. Jose Antonio Guijarro, spokesperson for the Met Office, commented that “August 2007 has been the rainiest on Majorca since 2002”.

Rainfall this month in the north has been 50 litres per square metre above the average.
