PALMA
NO less than 87 percent of businesses on Majorca believe that sales for August were worse than for the same month in 2008, a survey by small to medium-sized traders' association Pimeco revealed yesterday. The remaining 13 percent said they were the same as last year, but no one claimed they had been better.

This negative perception of sales during August was worse in outlying areas of the Island where 90 percent said that sales had been worse last month than in 2008. And even when figures for August were compared with those for July this year, results were no better with 69 percent of those interviewed saying that sales had been worse, 23 percent saying there had been no difference and only 8 percent claiming they had actually been better.
