Over the past month here in Majorca two Conservative MPs have e told the Bulletin that the party is taking the matter extremely seriously and only recently, Geoffrey Clifton-Brown, who had to cut short his visit to Majorca to return for the vote on Syria, said that he is confident that a motion to abolish the 15 year rule will be included in the next general election manifesto. Clifton-Brown, who is the Chairman of the Conservative Party’s International Office, has been fighting the corner of expatriates for many years and he believes that the party is taking the matter very seriously now considering how many British citizens there are living over seas but are no longer entitled to vote because they have been living out of the UK for more than 15 years.
What is more, should the 15 year rule remain in place, millions of Britons living in Europe will be excluded in the referendum on Britain’s position in Europe after the next election.
