ThePresident of the Balearic government, Jose Ramon Bauza, announced plans yesterday to axe 18 Members of Parliament in a move aimed at saving 12 million euros during the four year parliamentary period.
“We can do the same with less MPs,” he said yesterday, adding that money would be saved on transport costs, expenses and wages.
Under the new cost-saving plans, Majorca will now only have 23 MPs, (10 less) Minorca will have nine (four less), Ibiza will have eight (four less) and Formentera will continue to have its single MP. The total number of MPs will fall from 59 to 41, according to Bauza.
