PALMA
THE prime suspect in the brutal murder of 28-year-old Laura Gallego Negre, the crack addict Hermenegildo Fernandez Salva, was last night being held on remand in Palma prison.
The 31-year-old boyfriend of the victim, appeared before a preliminary hearing in Palma yesterday afternoon charged with alleged murder of Laura at the converted lockup garage the couple shared in Marratxi on Saturday and was subsequently ordered to be held in Palma prison and was denied bail. Yesterday, the family of the 28-year-old were still coming to terms with what had happened to Laura.
Her mother Ana and sister attended the minute's silence held in front of Marratxi Town Hall in memory of Laura and last night a large anti-domestic violence protest was organised by women's rights groups in the centre of Palma.
Today at midday, a minute's silence is going to be held outside the Balearic government headquarters in Palma.
Yesterday, more gruesome details about how Laura was bludgeoned to death were revealed. She was pummeled by a variety of objects including the TV remote which was found covered in blood. The Guardia Civil investigating the case suspect that the couple started arguing over a drug related issue. Laura was an addict too, although she desperately wanted to kick the habit and leave her boyfriend. The investigation continues.
