Palma.—The bar owners of Ca’n Pastilla are avid charity fundraisers contributing greatly to Help for Heroes and Help the Aged charities by placing collection boxes in their establishments, but this week despicable thieves conned their way into The Highwayman Bar, a favourite haunt of British holidaymakers, and stole two charity boxes.
Former serviceman Bernard Smith owner of The Tavern told the Bulletin: “Three young Spanish guys went into my friend’s bar; one of them asked to use the toilet and another asked for change and while Ron’s back was turned, the third guy who was carrying a rucksack stole the boxes. This isn’t the first incident thee previous week there was another attempted robbery in The Manchester Bar, two Moroccan guys went in asking for water and one of them took the Help for Heroes box off the bar and shoved it up his jersey, but my friend gave chase, grabbed the box off him and kicked him up the backside! It’s sickening to think that people will rob charities like this; they couldn’t stoop any lower.”
