Palma.—The charity event of the year” is how the newly appointed President of the Calvia Rotary Club, Michael Grossauer, described this year´s Sponsored Walk, “We walk for those who can´t”. The event will start at 9.30 on October 8 in Santa Ponsa, and all funds raised will go to the ASHINAGA organisation in Japan to support children orphaned by the catastrophic Tsunami, www.ashinaga.org.

The Walk, which was started some 30 years ago by the British International School, now has a total of 6 International Schools taking part: Baleares International College, Bellver Inernational College, Eurocampus Deutsche Schule, King Richard 111 College, Queens College, the Academy International School.

The pupils of these schools are contributing by collecting sponsors for the number of kilometres they walk besides already participating in the design of a poster to publicise the event.

A huge number of pupils took part in the competition, and the panel of judges had a difficult task to finally choose the winner - FABIA HOEHNE TARRAGONA, 13, of BELLVER INTERNATIONAL COLLEGE.

Please mark this date in your diary, Saturday 8th OCTOBER 2011 and help us by participating in the walk, or just come along and enjoy a real family day, with lots of stalls, crafts, food and drink outlets, entertainment for the children and live music throughout the day.

The English-speaking Rotary Club of Calvia follows the tradition of Rotary International of putting the needs of others first. Their dedication to fund-raising for local charities is well-known. Join us on the day and help make our Walk for those who can't another Rotary success.
