THE Nature Control department at Son Sant Joan airport in Palma is tackling an ongoing increase in the number of seagulls on the runways through the introduction of 35 birds of prey. Thirty falcons and five goshawks operating all days of the week without exception will keep the unwanted intruders at bay. The birds have been obtained from Falcon Centre BCN, a company based in Barcelona subcontracted by the Spanish Airports Authority. Palma airport wants to minimise interference from gulls whilst aircraft are taking off and landing.
