ONE in every ten young women in the Balearics who maintains a sexual relationship with her partner, ends up with an unwanted pregnancy.
A study carried out on the lives of the young people of the Islands presented yesterday by Rosa Puig, regional minister for the president's office and sports, has revealed that of this number, 62.8 percent terminate the pregnancy. The survey, involving 1'523 young people in the Balearics (733 on Majorca, 383 on Minorca nad 407 in Ibiza and Formentera), reveals that 82.7 percent of citizens aged between 15 and 29 who are in a sexual relationship, use some form of contraceptive to avoid pregnancy, above all, condoms. The average age for starting a sexual relationship was found to be 17.4 years of age for women and 16.3 years for men.
