SOME 32.6 percent of international arrivals by air in Balearic airports during June were on low cost airlines, the majority of them from German towns via Air Berlin or from Britain with easyJet. In addition, according to a report from the Spanish Ministry of Industry, Tourism and Commerce about low cost airlines in June, the Balearics dealt with 27.7 percent of the passengers arriving in Spain via this type of airline, this being an 18.6 percent rise compared to the same period last year. Some 55.9 percent of the passengers arriving in the Balearic islands came from various airports within Germany or Britain. Throughout the whole of Spain, the airport most used by low cost airlines was Palma, which dealt with 405'000 passengers from these flights, some 16.3 more than in June 2005. As for the low cost airline traffic throughout Spain, 1.7 million foreign passengers came to Spain in June on these airlines, some 14.6 percent more in comparison to the same month in 2005 and 31.4 percent of total arrivals by air.
