THE government approved the revision to the Energy Sector Plan 2004-2015 yesterday, which includes the project to lay gas pipes and electricity cables between the mainland, Ibiza and Majorca, as well as a connection between Majorca and Minorca. The gas connection between the mainland and Ibiza and Majorca will be finished in 2007, whilst the Majorca to Minorca connection will be ready by 2011, which is four years early than was expected. The aims of the approved Plan are twofold: to guarantee future energy supplies and needs in the Balearic Islands and to reduce Carbon Dioxide emissions by approximately 23.4 million tonnes between 2004 and 2015, which will fulfill the objectives set in the Kyoto Protocol. The electricity cable between the mainland and Majorca, will leave from Sagunto in Valencia and arrive in Calvia.
Inter-regional gas pipe will be finished in 2007
