Palma.—A 56-year-old Inca farmer was arrested yesterday for having opened fire on a suspected thief with a shotgun last Saturday.
The 20-year-old Moroccan victim was released from Inca hospital on Monday after being treated for pellet wounds to his backside and accompanied police to the scene of the shooting yesterday. The farm is along the Llubi to Inca road and, as police discovered yesterday, was home to a large plantation of marijuana.

According to sources close to the investigation, the Moroccan was after the marijuana and it was not the first time he had slipped into the plantation. Apparently, the 20-year-old had robbed the farm just a few days earlier. But, when he returned on Saturday, the farmer was waiting and, as soon as he spotted the intruder, shot him in the rear with a shotgun. Riddled with pellets, the victim collapsed to the floor while the alarm was raised and he was rushed to Inca Hospital. Not only was the farmer arrested yesterday, but the Moroccan was readmitted to hospital. It appears that some of the shot gun pellets have damaged a bone.

The Guardia Civil confirmed last night that a total of 90 marijuana plants were found and confiscated from the farm. The farmer denies drug dealing, he said it was to help ease serious pain caused by health problems he suffers from.
